Creamy Italian Tiramisu

Tiramisu is one of the best Italian desserts, which you can easily make at home. Creamy whisked mascarpone with sweet ladyfingers, and freshly ground coffee creates an incredible mixture of flavours.

Creamy Italian Tiramisu

What ingredients will I need?

  • 500 g creamy mascarpone
  • 1 package ladyfingers (e.g. Savoiardi)
  • 5 tablespoons caster sugar
  • 5 large eggs (ideally bio eggs - you'll use them raw!)
  • 1 cup of strong espresso (the best coffee you have at home)
  • 1 big shot of amaretto liqueur
  • Cocoa powder
  • Pinch of sea salt

How can I make this dessert?

  1. Make a cup of strong espresso.
  2. Prepare two large bowls for the egg yolks and egg whites.
  3. Separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. Pour yolks into one bowl, the whites into another one. 
  4. Beat the whites with a pinch of sea salt until stiff. When it's done, put the bowl into a fridge for a while.
  5. Whisk the yolks, add the caster sugar and slowly stir mascarpone.
  6. Take the whites out of the fridge and add them slowly to the mascarpone mixture. Stir very carefully until you have a smooth cream. 
  7. Pour coffee into a bowl, add amaretto and stir.
  8. Prepare a baking dish for tiramisu.
  9. Unpack the biscuits and dip one after another in the coffee-amaretto bath. Don't soak the ladyfingers too much otherwise they will get too soggy. Line the first layer of ladyfingers.
  10. When the first layer is done, spread approximately half of the mascarpone mixture and level it out.
  11. Repeat these two layers once more. 
  12. Dust the last mascarpone layer with cocoa powder. 
  13. Chill tiramisu ideally overnight (at least 2 hours!).
